Importing XML files

You can import issues, requirements, requirement documents, test cases, folders, users, customers, and test configurations from an XML file exported from another TestTrack project.

Before importing XML files, make sure you review export and import limitations to understand how TestTrack formats and validates data, which can help you prevent import errors. See XML export and import limitations.

1. Choose File > Import > XML Import.

The XML Import dialog box opens.

2. Click Browse.

The Open XML File dialog box opens.

3. Select an XML or ZIP file and click Open.

The selected file is displayed in the Import File area.

4. Select a Number Import option.

Tip: Number Import options may not be available depending on project options.

5. Select an If Pop-up Menu Item Does Not Exist option. This option only applies to pop-up menu fields, such as Priority, and does not apply to user fields.

6. Click Validate XML File to validate the file.

During validation, TestTrack checks data in the XML file to ensure it is used in the destination project and formatted correctly.

The XML Import Warning and Errors dialog box opens if any problems are found. Warnings indicate items can be imported but some information in them cannot. Errors indicate items cannot be imported. Click Save As to save the information as a text file, which you can use to troubleshoot problems in the file or make changes in the project before importing to help eliminate data clean up later.

7. Make any changes to the XML file or project to ensure all data you need can be imported and then repeat steps 1-6.

8. When validation is successful, click Import to import the items.

Items are imported and the XML Import Warnings and Errors dialog box opens. If you did not validate the XML file before importing, you can click Save As to save the information to use as a reference for any changes needed to the imported items.

9. Click Close when you finish.
